The future president of the Oxford Union has been removed from his position after failing a no-confidence vote that came after his disputed online comments about the conservative activist.

The vote against the student leader achieved the required two-thirds threshold to oust him from his position, according to an announcement from the society.

Contentious Posts

The dispute began after the student reportedly shared messages on social media that seemed to celebrate the killing of Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead while speaking at a university in Utah.

According to sources, one social media message reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an extended form of the phrase 'lol'.

The student leader is also said to have posted in a WhatsApp chat with other members appearing to welcome the incident.

Election Results

The vote of confidence was conducted over the weekend, with results announced on this week.

Society announcements indicated that over twelve hundred votes were cast supporting no confidence, while just over five hundred were against the motion.

The notice stated that the president-elect was considered to have stepped down in following the Oxford Union's rules.

Election Controversies

Voting operations were informally suspended early on Monday after the returning officer was allegedly subjected to "obstruction, intimidation, and unwarranted hostility" from multiple individuals.

In a response, the student asserted that the count had been halted because electoral officials believed "no valid outcome could be reached as a result of process errors".

His statement unequivocally denied that any person acting for the student had participated in threatening or obstructive conduct.

Ongoing Dispute

The president-elect stated that extremely serious issues had been referred to the governing body and that he continued as president-elect.

His comment added that George was "proud and thankful to have the support of significantly more than half of students at Oxford" who voted to have a "secure voting process and oppose efforts to undermine the electoral process".

Opponents have argued that any failure to remove him would "signal to the world that the Oxford Union has prioritized politics over principles".

External Reactions

On Friday, Kirk's former chief of staff presented an public message to the society on The Charlie Kirk Show broadcast.

The letter criticized the union of becoming a place where "presidents of the union openly applaud the killing of a political opponent".

The statement indicated that if the student were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "directly reach out to every American political speaker who has ever spoken at the society and advise them against future participation".

The Oxford Union had earlier criticized the student's comments after the activist's killing and stated that concerns submitted about him had been forwarded for disciplinary proceedings.

The president-elect had been one of multiple members to discuss with Kirk at the society in May.
